How to Make a Spaceship Out of Cardboard to Put on a Poster Board

Find out how to make a 3-D poster of a space ship.

Make a poster of a space ship "taking off" by making it three-dimensional and separate from the background. Since the space ship is in the foreground of the poster, you can make it from a piece of cardboard, which is thicker than poster board, and use a specific procedure to attach it to the background, which is flat. Find the materials you need, such as acrylic paints and the right thicknesses of poster board and cardboard, where craft supplies are sold.

Hot glue gun

Draw a spaceship on a piece of thicker cardboard that is the same size as the piece of poster board that you will be attaching it to--this is so you know exactly how the space ship will look in proportion to the rest of the poster board.

Paint the space ship with acrylic paints and wait two hours for the paint to dry thoroughly. Cut out the space ship.

Place the space ship on the blank piece of poster board and draw the rest of the poster around it, so you will not accidentally draw anything where the space ship will be placed. Remove the space ship and paint the background in the colors you need. Paint only the color of the sky that will be behind the space ship and add simple sky objects, such as clouds and stars.

Cut two strips of cardboard that are 2 inches wide and about 4 inches long. Fold the strips back and forth from one short end to the other, like an accordion or a fan. Glue the end of each accordion strip to the back of the space ship with a hot glue gun, one near the top and one near the bottom. Wait 10 minutes for the glue to dry.

Add a dab of hot glue to the other ends of the accordion strips. Make sure the space ship is in the position where you want it to be on the poster board and press the glued ends down. Hold them there for one minute to give the glue a chance to bond to the front of the poster board. Wait 30 minutes before hanging the poster with the three-dimensional space ship.
